Claim Your Federal Solar Battery Rebate
Save around 30% on an eligible home battery — applied upfront, before you pay
Get a Free QuoteThe Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program gives households and businesses a discount of around 30% off the upfront cost of an eligible battery system, delivered through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). At G Gill Electricals, we apply this discount directly to your pricing and manage the entire process for you.
Book your install sooner rather than later: the discount steps down again from 1 January 2027, so your installation date determines what you receive.
How the battery rebate works
The rebate isn't a cash payment or a cheque in the mail. It's delivered through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), and it works like this:
- 1
Your battery's usable capacity (kWh) determines how many STCs it's eligible for. Bigger usable capacity, more certificates.
- 2
The certificates have a dollar value, based on the STC market price at the time of install.
- 3
We apply that value as an upfront discount on your system cost, so you pay the reduced price from the start. You don't wait, and you don't claim anything yourself.
We handle the creation and trading of the certificates for you, so the discount is already built into your quote.
What you need to be eligible
The rebate is subject to eligibility requirements under the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2001. In practical terms, to qualify your installation generally needs to:
- Use an eligible battery system between 5 kWh and 100 kWh in capacity
- Be paired with new or existing rooftop solar
- Be installed by an accredited installer (which we are — SAA-accredited, Tesla Powerwall Certified and Enphase Certified)
- Meet the technical and safety standards set out in the regulations
We confirm your eligibility as part of your free quote, so there are no surprises.
How much will I actually get?
The honest answer: it depends on your battery. The discount is around 30% on average, but it's not a flat rate.
-
Batteries up to 14 kWh usable capacity receive the full rate.
-
Larger systems are tapered, so the per-kWh discount reduces above that threshold.
This is exactly why system design matters. Sizing your battery to your actual usage — rather than just buying the biggest one — often gives you the best combination of rebate value and real-world benefit. We model this for you before you commit, and the exact discount is confirmed in your written quote.
The incentive reduces over time each year until 2030, so the value available now is higher than it will be later.

FoxESS battery, installed to a high standard
I recently had a FoxESS battery system installed by G Gill Electricals and am very happy with the experience. The installation was clean, tidy, and completed to a high standard. Everything was well organized, and the attention to detail was evident throughout the process. The team took the time to explain the system in detail, including how it operates and how to get the best performance from it. They were professional, punctual, and easy to deal with from start to finish. If you're considering a battery installation, I'd be happy to recommend G Gill Electricals based on my experience.
